This talk will explore the ethical challenges that arise when doing research using social media. It will explore issues relating to privacy, trust, social justice, community engagement, and suggest some strategies for acting ethically when doing social media research.

Dan O’Connor, PhD, is Head of Humanities and Social Science at the Wellcome Trust. Previously he was a member of faculty at the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics in Baltimore, USA, as well as Head of Research at one of the UK’s first social media consultancies.
